The Cartagena Mangroves Restoration Project supported by The Cartagena Turtles Community and its members will have a positive impact on 6 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).

#5 - GENDER EQUALITY & EMPOWER WOMEN.
Micro-nurseries, tree planting and ecological stewardship will put money into the pockets of women in one of Cartagena’s poorest neighbourhoods helping pull families out of poverty.
#8 - DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH.
Artisanal fishing, bird-watching and ecotourism, tree planting, ecological monitoring and environmental services that will create jobs for the community.
#11 - SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES.
Mangroves provide coastal protection, reduce flooding, provide shade and reduce other negative effects of climate change.
#13 - TAKE URGENT ACTION TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE.
Blue carbon projects (coastal projects) have been proven to be up to five times more effective in reducing the impact of greenhouse gas emissions than other reforestation projects.
#14 - Conserve the oceans, Seas And Marine Resources.
Mangroves restoration supports biodiversity in coastal regions supporting restoring ecosystems for endemic and migratory birds, fish, manatees, crocodiles, turtles and other species as well as supporting small-scale fisheries.
#15 - Reverse Land Degradation And Halt Biodiversity Loss.
Mangroves restoration reduces coastal erosion and land degradation as well as arresting loss of biodiversity.
